Sketches, doodles, and other ephemera

Below: an in-progress DiMaggio piece and some doodles from the sketchbook.

Great Cigar Smokers in History

On the heels of the JFK commission I did for The Cigar Stop over in Shrewsbury, NJ, I was commissioned to do a couple more drawings to adorn the walls of that fine establishment. Following is the completed Winston Churchill pic I did and a preliminary sketch for a "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" Clint Eastwood I'm working on.

Hey Mickey!

Introducing Mickey Mantle Mahoney. He's a roghly seven week old half beagle/ half mutt. We adopted the little guy on Saturday and my life has pretty much revolved around keeping him from chewing up or peeing on everything in my apartment.

JFK With Cigar and Paper

Here's the finished JFK drawing I posted last week. By the end of the month, you'll be able to buy signed and numbered prints exclusively at the Cigar Stop in Shrewsbury, NJ. In the meantime, you can swing by there to pick up a few cigars and see the original drawing framed and hanging behind the counter. I recommend a CAO Brazilia or Ashton VSG.

June Update

I'm taking a break this week from that Eli Manning painting to do a commissioned piece that needs to be done by the end of the week, but I thought I'd post the last bit of progress I made on it.

Below are some pics of the Boathouse, a great bar in Lambertville, NJ I visited last October and took a few snapshots of. I decided to break up the monotony of doing the highly detailed Manning painting by messing around with a more expressionistic bar scene in between. The first pic is, obviously, the reference photo I took, the second is a color study in marker leaning more on reds, browns, and oranges, the third pic is the beginnings of the work on canvas.

Star Wars Doodles

Still workin' on that Eli Manning painting, and, boy, is it a pain in the balls. I'll post some new pics of that tomorrow, but here's what I did when I had to break the hell away from it for a minute for the sake of my own sanity: Shitty Star Wars Doodles!!! (Actually, I kind of dig the Chebacca one.)

Eli's Escape Thus Far

Now, that I'm pretty much at or past the halfway point on this thing and making progress, I thought it would be fun to re-post the pics documenting the entire process to this point. Especially since it seems like so long since I started the damn thing. I'm really hoping to have the thing done by the end of the week, but there's just so much going on it'll be tough. Enjoy what's been done so far, though:

'08 Summer Showdown T-Shirt Design

Every summer Shore Runner, the local running store, hosts a high school cross country race they call the Summer Showdown. The following is a design I did for the t-shirts they're giving away this year. I sent them files with different fonts on them and have no idea which one they ended up using, but this one is my favorite. Btw, if you're ever in Long Branch and in need of some running or workout gear, stop by Pier Village and say 'hi'. They do a great job over there and will really take care of you.
